Walk Peel Forest and raft the Rangitata
Darryn's insider tips for a great day out
" In my opinion the best day out in the area would be to start at Peel Forest for a walk. Either take the whole family on an easy 30 minute walk around the ‘Big Tree’ Walk and see some stunning Totara Trees, or for more of a challenge walk up ‘Little Mt Peel’.
Then I would stop in for lunch at The Green Man at Peel Forest, they do great pizzas!
From there I would head up the road for an afternoon of rafting with Rangitata Rafts! Either take the whole family on the Lower Rangitata fun grade 2 section, or for the more adventurous take on the Rangitata Gorge Grade 5 section!
Finish off the raft trip with a classic kiwi BBQ at the Lodge, and try one of the ice cold local craft beers from the Bar."
Rangitata Rafts is a family owned adventure business. You have the option of family friendly Grade 2 sections on the lower Rangitata, through to the biggest volume of Grade 5 rapids in New Zealand.
It's the ultimate kiwi backcountry experience, complete with hot showers, barbeque and craft beers back at the lodge. The scenery is stunning!
