What to expect when you visit Timaru
Timaru is warm in summer (we notched up a record-breaking 41.3 degrees Celsius in February 2011).
Located in the lee of the Southern Alps, Timaru can be cold in winter (usually a brisk five to six degrees in June and July), though it rarely snows.
What to wear
Summer + Autumn
It is a good idea to wear two layers (one warm) and bring a waterproof option. Sunblock and sturdy walking shoes are a must.
Winter + Spring
Wind and waterproof gear are essential through these months! Wrap up with a wooly beanie and gloves, with 2-3 layers. Merino socks are a nice treat to keep the feet warm!
