In Geraldine, you can join the team at Peel Forest Horse Trekking for a range of half day or full day treks that take in the forest and the Rangitata river.

Four Peaks High Country Track offers a three-day guided horse trek over a privately-owned high country station for experienced riders with their own horses.
If you’re headed to Tekapo, there’s Mackenzie Alpine Horse Trekking who offer a range of day treks, as well as their ever-popular overnight summer trek.
Geraldine’s Hidden Valleys offer a range of fully-guided adventure tours, including several alpine hiking tours.
The Dennistoun Pass Hiking Tour is more of an expedition than a straightforward tour.
Starting at Mesopotamia Station (about an hour’s drive north of Timaru), the three-to-five-day tour takes you into true wilderness and includes pick up either by helicopter or river raft.

Snowshoeing (hiking in the snow, using specially-designed snow shoes and tramping poles) is another option.
Alpine Recreation offers customised snowshoeing tours around Lake Tekapo between July and September. Snowshoeing can be a great option for families. Alpine Recreation provide all equipment and a private hut.
