We get it, it's hard to narrow down exactly what to do over Labour Weekend in Timaru District.
There are so many fantastic places to wine and dine, we have walk and bike tracks galore, there's always an event or two, loads of options for free family fun......so we've taken it upon ourselves to narrow it down to ten ideas to get you started. You're welcome.
1. Play disc golf at Caroline Bay
Head to beautiful Caroline Bay, there's so much to do there over the long weekend. Our pick of activities is Disc Golf. It's played much like traditional golf, except a disc (frisbee) is thrown into a basket.
Suitable for all ages, and you can hire discs from The Bay Hill Brewery for a $30 refundable deposit.
2. Eat a Denheath Custard Square
If you haven't eaten one of these already, you must! These squares of custardy goodness are world famous and made right here. They are for sale in lots of cafes across the District, look here for your nearest store.
3. Explore Peel Forest on horseback
We love Peel Forest, and we love exploring it with Peel Forest Horse Trekking. They have horses to suit any requirement. During your trek, you will experience breathtaking views of the mountains, the Rangitata River and the Canterbury Plains.
While you're out that way stop for refreshments at The Green Man at Peel Forest.

5. Visit the South Canterbury Traction Engine and Transport Museum
This Museum is awesome! Open on Saturday from 1pm - 4pm, 33 Brosnan Road, Seadown, Timaru.

6. Stroll the Riverside Walkway in Geraldine
One of the best ways to explore Geraldine is on foot. The Riverside Walkway is really pretty and full of exotic rhododendrons which are flowering and looking beautiful. Make a day of it, head here to plan your Geraldine activities.
The Geraldine Farmers Market is also back on for the season, Saturdays from 9am - 1pm at St Mary's Church.
7. Go to the Steam and Craft Fair at the Pleasant Point Railway and Museum
The annual Labour Weekend ‘Steam & Craft Fair’ is on this weekend at the Pleasant Point Museum and Railway. It's on Sunday and Monday from 10.30am until the last train at 4pm.
There’s around 15 craft stalls selling a variety of items. The large steam locomotive, and the unique Ford Model T railcar will be operating. There’s so much to see and do for all ages including free face painting and bouncy castle, an operating model railway, vintage movie theatre, children’s playground and much more.
There's plenty to do in Pleasant Point while you're there.
8. Visit the Temuka Courthouse Museum
It's reopening this weekend! Open on Sundays from 2pm - 4pm from Labour weekend until Queens Birthday weekend.
Housed in the historic former Temuka Courthouse. This Museum is home to over 6,000 items recording the history of Temuka, from farming to industry, family history and social history.

9. Check out the latest exhibition at the Aigantighe Art Gallery
The South Canterbury Arts Society Annual Exhibition & Art Awards is on at the Aigantighe Art Gallery from this Saturday. Check out the amazing works from our incredibly talented local artists. Free entry. 26 October to 10 November.
10. Raft the Rangitata Gorge
Rangitata Rafts is a locally owned family business and it's a must-do in Timaru District. Either take the whole family on the Lower Rangitata fun grade 2 section, or for the more adventurous take on the Rangitata Gorge Grade 5 section!
