Timaru eats

If you're heading to Timaru this weekend, here's some inspiration for your eating pleasure.

In a District of world class food producers and amazing eateries it can be hard to choose where to go.  We’re doing the hard yards and eating our way around the District to save you time and calories.

Today we're focusing on what some Timaru eateries are offering as we move into Level 2.  Exciting!

Don't be limited to this list, we have heaps more amazing eateries in Timaru, and throughout the District.

Saikou Teppanyaki and Whisky Bar

We've loved our Saikou takeaways lately, and now they are also open for dining from midday Thursday May 14.

Although they traditionally operate as a bar too, it will be dining in for now.  With menu options like fresh sushi, and their legendary Kaarage chicken, dining in suits us fine.

You can also order takeaway by phoning (03) 686 6830.

But wait there's more...

Exceptional Japanese cuisine with an emphasis on whiskys and craft beers.

Bullock Restaurant and Bar

Another crowd favourite, the Bullock Bar and Restaurant will be open again for dining from 5pm on Thursday May 14!

Spaces are limited so please phone to book your table on 0800 285 662.

Or for click and collect takeaway meals, check out the menu here.

But wait there's more...

We recommend the Roast Vegetable Stack, the Seared Salmon, Southern Comfort Chicken Burger and any of the steaks.

Benny's Again

One of Timaru's most popular family friendly restaurants and a neighbourhood institution.

Benny’s will open their popular restaurant again on Monday the 18th of May, from 11:30am until late.

In the meantime, they are continuing their free delivery in Timaru, and contactless pick-up from restaurant.  Order by sending them a message via Facebook or by phoning on 021 256 7814.

But wait there's more...

Fabulous desserts. Great children's menu. Lots of keto options.

Sukhothai Restaurant

If you're after really good authentic Thai takeaways head to Sukhothai. They've been serving it up since 2004.

They have launched a new website for online orders, you can pick-up or they will deliver in Timaru.

Follow them on Facebook to stay up to date and for messages like this: "Sending you all lots of love and doggo memes from Sukhothai team".

But wait there's more...

$16 lunch specials from  11:30am - 3:00pm.

Bay Hill Brewery Bar and Restaurant

With amazing views over Caroline Bay and out to the Pacific Ocean, dining here makes us feel like we're on holiday.  If you're local and planning a staycation then add this place to your list.

The restaurant with 'the best views in town' is opening again for dining on Thursday 14 May!

But wait there's more...

Aside from the food, views, and service, the best thing about dining here is the ability to cross the road and walk it all off at Caroline Bay.

Steak @ Custom House

We love steak anywhere but Steak @ Custom House is next level.  The menu's not limited to steak, it's definitely steak heavy though as subtly alluded to in the name.  The wine list is ah-mazing.

This team are opening from Thursday 14 May for dining in, please phone first to book your table on 684 5528.

But wait there's more...

"5 stars is not enough!  Ribeye Steak with Brandy Peppercorn Sauce and truffle mash (Amazing). If my husband and I ever want a special meal out, we go to the Steak house. Perfect food and ambience. Jared's cooking & David's service is second to none."

Zest Restaurant

Where do we start...award winning, fabulous pizzeria with an extensive menu.  Great sunny courtyard that happens to also be dog friendly.  The kids menu is amazing.  Roaring fire in the winter.

Zest are open for takeaways, and start their dine in option from Friday May 15. Please phone ahead to book on 688 8313.

But wait there's more...

They even do a doggy date night from time to time.

The Oxford, Timaru

A local favourite with a huge following, and now a renowned destination eatery for visitors to Timaru.

The Oxford are open again for the full dining experience that they are highly regarded for from 5pm on Thursday May 14.

They have reduced capacity to ensure social distancing, and have new booking times to reduce customer crossover.

Bookings are recommended, please phone 03 688 3297.

But wait there's more...

Oxtoberfest 2020 is scheduled for October (obviously), learn more and enter your homebrew over on The Oxford website.
