Take the Mt John look-out walk
From the carpark at Mt John, there’s a short circular walk around the top of the hill near the Mt John Observatory.
The circular, look-out walk takes about 30 minutes and returns you to the carpark.
Grab a cuppa at Astro café
From there, grab a coffee and something to eat from Astro café. The café is located at the summit and gives you stunning lake and mountain views.
Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd
Head back down Mt John to Tekapo township. Your next stop is the historic Church of the Good Shepherd, located on the shores of Lake Tekapo.
It’s a picturesque chapel to visit and look around. Find the heritage-listed stone church, built in 1935, on Pioneer Drive.
Soak in hot pools
Next stop is Tekapo Springs on Lakeside Drive to enjoy the outdoor hot pools. Tekapo Springs is a great place to soak away the hours, while taking in more stunning views over Lake Tekapo and Two Thumb mountain range.
Go ice skating or take the waterslide
Depending on the time of year and the season, Tekapo Springs is a top-notch ice skating venue (winter only) or a great place for water sliding (summer only).
Get pampered at the day spa
If you’re keen on some pampering, check out the Tekapo Springs spa. It’s open seven days a week from 10am to 7pm and offers a range of treatments from massage to pedicures.
Go stargazing
Finally, finish your day at Lake Tekapo’s Earth and Sky with an evening stargazing tour at scientific Mt John Observatory.
