Trevor Griffiths Rose Gardens
A garden named after a local nurseryman
Named after a local nurseryman and author with a passion for growing old varies, the garden was deemed ‘a garden of excellence’ in 2013 by the World Federation of Rose Societies.
The Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden was designed by Sir Miles Warren and has more than 1200 roses. It has a rose from every rose family in the world.
Mr Griffiths' collection of genuine old roses was once the third biggest in the world. It is from this collection, plus 600 modern roses from David Austin, that the Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden garden evolved.
Best time to go
End of November to the beginning of December, when the garden is at its peak.
Where to find it
Where else can I see roses?
Timaru Botanic Gardens have an extensive collection of new and species roses.
Geraldine and Temuka domains also have colourful rose gardens – and you won’t want to miss Timaru’s annual Festival of Roses held in late November early December each year.
